Easy Fall Meal Favorites at My House
Grilled Cheese Sloppy Joes, Baked Apples & Easy Soup Recipes
Hello Flourish Wellness Community!
Anyone else feeling the daily dinner dilemma? As much as I love food, recipes, and meal planning, I’m human too. Sometimes the question “What’s for dinner?” can be downright frustrating, especially when you’re the one who has to come up with the answer night after night. September has been a whirlwind for us, and while it’s been hectic, I’ve discovered a few simple and enjoyable recipes that my family loves and will likely become staples this fall.
If you’re also facing meal planning boredom, here are some tips to help make it more enjoyable and manageable:
1. Rotate Your Favorites: Create a list of go-to meals that your family enjoys and rotate them weekly. Having a list of reliable recipes can make planning easier and less stressful.
2. Plan Ahead: Dedicate some time each week to plan your meals. Use this time to explore new recipes, review what’s in your pantry, and make a shopping list. Planning ahead can reduce last-minute scrambling and help you stay organized.
3. Prep in Batches: Consider preparing ingredients or entire meals in advance. Chopping vegetables, cooking grains, or even prepping freezer meals can save time during busy weeknights.
4. Get Creative with Leftovers: Transform leftovers into new meals. For instance, roasted chicken can become chicken salad, tacos, or a hearty soup. This not only reduces waste but also keeps meals exciting.
5. Involve the Family: Make meal planning a family activity. Let everyone choose a meal for the week, or assign tasks like setting the table or choosing sides. This can make dinner preparation more collaborative and fun.
6. Explore New Recipes: Occasionally, try a new recipe or ingredient to break the monotony. Even a small change can make mealtime feel fresh and interesting.
By incorporating these tips, you can make meal planning more manageable and even enjoyable. Now, let’s dive into this month’s mealtime favorites!
I saw this on an instagram account and knew I wanted to try it for a weekday meal. If you are interested in saving time during the week I’d suggest prepping the sloppy joe sauce in advance which will help you put this delicious meal together in less than 25 minutes. Add a serving of vegetable and fruit as sides and you are done!
This month I did a total of three different food demonstrations with the Calvert County Health Department. It’s always a lot of fun and we like to try to feature seasonal produce and discuss how to keep the ingredients and recipes affordable. Baked apples are always a must for a quick fall dessert. I don’t typically use a recipe at home (it’s more of a core the apple and stuff with delicious stuff kind of “recipe”) but this is the recipe I shared with my cooking classes.
My Favorite Go-To Fish Chowder Recipe for Fall
I know that not everyone is a fish fan, but this fish chowder recipe might just change your mind. My grandmother was from Nova Scotia and good seafood dishes are just the best in the Maritime Provinces’. There are just some recipes that give you all the nostalgic feels and a good fish chowder in the fall and winter makes me think of my mom, who also loves a good seafood chowder. It might still be humid in September in Maryland but as soon as cooler weather hits, this will be on my monthly menu.
As we settle into the rhythm of fall, it’s the perfect time to simplify our routines and savor the little moments—especially at the dinner table. Whether it’s rotating family favorites or trying out a new recipe, meal planning doesn’t have to be a chore. By using these tips, you can take the pressure off and maybe even rediscover the joy of cooking. Remember, meals don’t have to be complicated to be delicious!
Wishing you all a season filled with nourishing food, family, and time to unwind. Here’s to a flavorful fall ahead!
Until next time,
Alison
