Embracing a Gentle Start to Fall: Reflecting on Seasonal Transitions and Wellness
Hello Flourish Wellness Community!
It’s hard to believe that the month of September is almost over! I’m not going to lie, we’ve had a rough start to the school year with illness in the family, which created some fatigue and difficulty staying in rhythm with routines. It’s important to recognize that we don’t necessarily ‘flourish’ every month, and sometimes rest and resetting are a completely normal part of life’s journey.
Despite the challenges, there have been many moments of joy amidst the chaos of September family life. I’m thrilled to share that I have two super exciting projects brewing for 2025, and I’m looking forward to revealing more about these in the coming months. What has brought me the most joy this month, however, is watching my oldest daughter play field hockey for the first time. Growing up, field hockey was my absolute favorite sport, and seeing my 7-year-old take the field brought back that nostalgic “fall field hockey feeling.” It was a mix of joy and sheer terror witnessing how aggressive (in the most adorable and best way possible) these little girls can be. Although they lost their first game, my daughter rated her experience a 9 out of 10, which made me smile and hope she continues to find fun and friendships in a sport I cherished.
I hope many of you are finding your footing as we transition into the fall season. And if you’ve had a rough start like my family, that’s okay too. We’ve got this. ;)
Without further ado, here are my monthly favorites for September:
What I’m Eating: Broccoli Salad from Eating Well
This month, I’ve been savoring a delicious broccoli salad from Eating Well. It’s the perfect blend of crunchy vegetables, sweet cranberries, and a tangy yogurt dressing, making it not only nutritious but also incredibly satisfying. Broccoli is packed with vitamins and antioxidants, and this salad makes it easy to enjoy its benefits. Whether as a side dish or a main meal, it’s a great addition to your fall table. Check out the recipe here.
What I’m Listening To: Max McNown
I’ve been enjoying the soothing and introspective music of Max McNown this month. His song “Willfully Blind” and other tracks offer a calming backdrop that’s perfect for unwinding or focusing on daily tasks. Max McNown’s music blends thoughtful lyrics with soothing melodies, providing a refreshing escape from the everyday hustle.
What I’m Reading: A Great Marriage by Frances Mayes
Though my reading time has been limited this month, I’ve started A Great Marriage by Frances Mayes. As a fan of her previous work, Under the Tuscan Sun, which was beautifully adapted into a movie, I was excited to dive into her latest novel. A Great Marriage promises an engaging story filled with the rich descriptions and engaging narrative that Mayes is known for in her work.
I hope these favorites bring some inspiration to your September. Feel free to share your thoughts or any favorites of your own. Here’s to embracing the fall season with renewed energy and joy!
Warmly,
Alison Massey
